Remote controls are easy to obtain and to use. The receivers are very cheap and have 3 pins – I use this type from Farnell
My robots use the Pololu motor shield
I like this because it is easy to put on an Arduino and it has a good enough current for the motors.
As far as the code goes – it’s a simple case of reading the remote signal and getting the Arduino to react to it.
In other words – IF statements. The code the children use just works on understanding how to read the code and respond to it.
